Housing Benefit/Discretionary Housing Payment?
I am moving to a 2 bedroom flat on June 1st.
My baby is due on July 31st.
The landlord accepts DSS.
Its £650 a month.
Will i be entitled to the shortfall? eg: DHP
I know i wont have my child, but i am living in Pembrokeshire, right now.
The flat got vandalised over the weekend, The lock is now broken, and the whole door needs replacing.
There is horrific damp thorughout the flat, making me very ill at times.
The electrics dont work in the bathroom.
The plug sockets are dangerous and coming out of the wall, and with damp as well this isn't a good mix.
The kitchen window is smashed as well.
I figured if i take photographs of the flat, and when i am applying for my DHP, they will take the state of my previous flat into consideration, as me and my baby will need somewhere safe, and secure to live.
And also it is only going to be for 8 weeks, because my baby will be born within the 8 weeks anyway, so DHP will be temparary, as my entitlement will go up anyway.
by the way i will be moving to surrey, by all my family. so they should take this into consideration also?
Answer:If you're moving anyway and will be accepted for housing benefit in Surrey I don't really see how the state of your present flat comes into it, unless you are asking your present council for temporary accommodation until you move into your new flat.
You can certainly apply for a DHP though on grounds of hardship, you may or may not get it of course, there's some information in the link to see if any of it might apply to you.
Until you actually have the baby they are probably only going to pay your housing benefit at the one bedroom flat rate, or single room rate if you are under 25, for the area.
Answer:How about getting a job like the rest of us and then you won't have to worry about it? You'll also then discover how marvellous it is to work for a living only to have the government take some of your salary to give to people like you. It's wonderful!
